“The Last of Us” season 2 is coming – we’ve known that for a long time, after all, HBO confirmed the extension of the series during the broadcast of season 1. But when will the journey continue for Ellie and Joel?

This question is not so easy to answer, because the production of the new episodes is not only very complex and therefore takes a lot of time, but due to the strike of the authors and actors in Hollywood, almost all projects are currently on hold anyway. Any good news for The Last of Us?

Of course, HBO wants to show the new “The Last of Us” episodes as early as possible, but the station’s hands are tied due to the strike. As soon as the strike is over, the scripts for season 2 have to be finished first, then shooting will begin at some point – that will probably be mid-2024 at the earliest.

Fans of The Last of Us – Part II video game, on which the new episodes will be based, already know that the story actually takes place several years after the events of the first game, so Ellie is now older, more mature.

Due to the delays in filming, this will now also be the case in season 2 of “The Last of Us”. Bella Ramsey was 17 when Season 1 was filmed and will be 21 in September 2024. A time difference of four years – in the video game it was five years.

We won’t see Season 2 of “The Last of Us” until 2025, but the “Game of Thrones” spin-off “House of the Dragon” will return in 2024 with new episodes. Since the series relies on actors from Great Britain, it is not affected by the strike and filming can continue.
