Formula 1 racing has been banned in Switzerland since 1955 and the Le Mans drama. Nevertheless, the Swiss Grand Prix took place twice more – in exile in France. In 1982, Keke Rosberg laid the foundation for his world championship title.
In 1955, 84 people lost their lives in the 24-hour Le Mans race. The fatal accident involving the Mercedes Silver Arrows has sealed the fate of gasoline-powered racing cars in Switzerland to this day: since then, there have been no more circuit races in this country, and the recent Formula E races in Zurich and Bern were just episodes.
