In the Amazon Prime video series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” we get a deep insight into the lives of well-known personalities from Middle-earth for the first time. In addition, new characters were written into the world especially for the show, who are important key figures for the plot.

One such person is Eärien (Ema Horvath), daughter of Elendil (Lloyd Owen) and sister of Isildur (Max Baldry) and Anárion. The young woman is not a character invented by author Tolkien, but appears for the first time in the “Lord of the Rings” series.

However, according to Elendil actor Lloyed Owen, his daughter wasn’t written into the show for no reason. Following the recent death of Elendil’s wife, his daughter is now taking over her role. Since there are often arguments between the seafarer and his son Isildur, Eärien serves as a mediator within the family.

But the responsibility weighs heavily on the shoulders of the young woman. In addition to her family, Eärien also takes care of her own challenges. After applying twice, she was accepted by the Master Builders’ Guild. In doing so, she hopes to forge her own destiny.

Her second attempt at being accepted into the guild shows Eärien’s tenacity. The guild’s decisions are essentially final, which meant she shouldn’t have been accepted, but her brother motivated her to persevere.

With Anárion at the other end of Númenor and Eärien seeming to be able to manage on his own, Elendil’s main focus is on his eldest son. As a result, the needs of Eärien are quickly ignored. The young woman therefore gets her recognition elsewhere.

With that premise, Eärien isn’t just the caring daughter. Instead, it could itself become a problem for the family. As we already know from the books, the island kingdom of Númenor, where the family lives, is destroyed. It is therefore quite possible that Eärien is partly to blame.

The last king of Númenor, Pharazon (Trystan Gravelle), was influenced by Sauron’s power, which ultimately spelled disaster for the place. It could very well be that Eärien seeks refuge with the king after she gets no attention in her own family. This could also put her under the spell of Sauron.

As she is not a character from the works of Tolkien, her fate remains uncertain for the time being. However, we already know that Elendil and Isildur will manage to save the Dúnedain from Númenor and bring them to safety on the mainland. What role her daughter or sister will really play remains to be seen. However, Owen’s words do not bode well.
