The Lord of the Rings: This is what you need to know about Elven Captain Elrond!

In the new Amazon Prime series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” the rise of Sauron to the dark ruler of Middle-earth is shown for the first time. At that time, the half-Elf Elrond faced his dark machinations together with the forces of the Elves and humans.

Elrond and his twin brother Elros were born in Middle-earth during the First Age. He was the son of the half-elves Earendil and Elwig. After a verdict, the twins had to decide with which sex their destiny should be united, that of the elves or that of the humans.

Elros chose to live as a mortal and became the first king of Númenor. Elrond, on the other hand, chose the inheritance of the Eldar and thus immortality. Thus he became the captain and herald of the Elf-King Gil-galad, High King of Noldor. Elrond married Celebrían, daughter of Galadriel and her husband Celeborn.

In the Second Age, during the battle against Sauron, Gil-galad sent Elrond to protect Eregion from the invading forces of Sauron. Elrond’s army was too late, however. They narrowly escaped, thanks to the help of the dwarves from Khazad-dum. They found refuge in a hidden valley west of the Misty Mountains. Here Elrond founded the Rivendell.

During the Battle of the Last Alliance, in which Elves and Men fought against Sauron, Elrond supported the troops of Gil-galad. The Elven King died in this battle, but before that he was able to present his Elven Ring, Vilya, the Ring of Air, to Elrond. The battle ended when Isildur cut the One Ring from Sauron’s finger.

In the Third Age, Elrond took in Aragorn, descendant of Isildur. To protect the boy, his true identity was veiled and Aragon lived in Rivendell under the alias Estel.

Rivendell has become one of the most important places in Middle-earth over the years. It was here that Elrond’s Council was convened, bringing together envoys from Elves, Men and Dwarves. They were also the ones who decided what would happen to the One Ring.

The first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video starting September 2nd. In the new series, Robert Aramayo plays the young elf captain Elrond. Hugo Weaving played the half-elf in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings films.
