Lucid unveiled its second vehicle at the Los Angeles auto show, a luxury SUV. The brand certainly hopes to win over more customers with its new arrival: the Gravity.

It had been announced for three years, and here it is finally exposed to the public eye. As expected, the Lucid Gravity will be a vehicle with high-end features, like its sedan, the Lucid Air. Its features are largely inspired by it, which makes it more of an SUV coupe. While the Air was more in pursuit of the Tesla Model S, this one has explicitly stepped on the Model X’s toes.

Technologies and performance

Let’s get straight to the heart of the matter: the power of the vehicle. The performance will be there, since the Gravity will be powered by an 800 hp electric motor. A strong figure, which places it almost at the level of the Lotus Eletre and its 905 horsepower. This surge of power will allow it to successfully complete the sacrosanct exercise of 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

Exact details regarding the battery are currently unknown, but Lucid claims a range of 708 km according to the American EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) standard. It will obviously benefit from 300 kW fast charging technology, which should shorten downtime while traveling. With such cavalry under the hood, the Gravity will also be able to tow loads of up to 2,700 kg.

Design and interior space

We more than widely recognize the overall design of the Lucid Air in the design of the Gravity. Derek Jenkins is at the origin of this one, and the very aerodynamic shape that he gave to the vehicle allows it to display a rather optimal drag coefficient of 0.24. A result which places it at the same level as the Tesla Model X.

The passenger compartment is on par with the rest of the services. A huge 34-inch OLED screen sits proudly in front of the driver, while another 12.6-inch touchscreen panel will provide the infotainment system. Like the Air, the Gravity will benefit from the LEAP platform, which will allow it to offer ample space on board for passengers. It will have a front trunk, and will be able to accommodate up to 3,172 liters of cargo once the seats are folded. Overall, the interior is very refined and should not disappoint in terms of finishes.

The first deliveries will arrive in 2024, and even if the precise prices have not yet been announced by Lucid, the brand has mentioned a minimum price of 80,000 dollars. A rather steep entry ticket.
