the make-up tip to plump up the lips without marking wrinkles

Lip layering, or “double gloss”, is a makeup technique that plumps up the lips without marking fine lines around the mouth. We’ll explain how to do this makeup trick.

Ultra-trendy this spring-summer, the glossy effect on the lips is ideal for giving more volume while providing a small dose of care and hydration. To obtain this result, you can use different products: a lip oil, a gloss or even a tinted balm enriched with peptides. The only problem is that these sometimes very creamy and moisturizing formulas tend to slip into fine lines during the day, especially if our lips are dry.

The solution ? Adopt the “double gloss” or “lip layering”, a technique developed by the Fenty Beauty teams which creates a moisturizing and protective barrier on the mouth to prevent the gloss from running into the small folds of the mouth. The principle : layer a lip balm or oil and a gloss to display a perfect lacquered effect and reinforce the hydration of the skin…

Double gloss: what types of products to use?

For successful lip layering, the brand recommends combining a lip oil with a gloss, or a lip mask with a gloss. Apply a thin layer of oil or lip mask to previously exfoliated lips then apply the finishing gloss, focusing on the heart of the lips. Avoid applying too much material at the corners because this is where small filaments and clumps of material can form. Reapply a little gloss during the day to maintain a beautiful shine.

Thanks to this technique, which reinforces the hydration of makeup, the gloss is much less likely to run into fine dehydration lines or into the corners of the lips. The lip oil and balm form a protective moisturizing base, a sort of barrier that protects the lips from dehydration. The gloss, for its part, brings a little extra touch of shine, pearls or glitter depending on its finish.

3 tips to prevent your gloss from sinking into fine lines

  • Use a lip liner : you can draw the contours of your lips with a colored pencil. Another option is to use a transparent “barrier effect” lip pencil specially designed to prolong the wear of makeup and to prevent the material from migrating into fine lines.
  • Apply products in small quantities : lip glosses, balms and oils often have slightly thicker and more enveloping textures. This is why it is recommended to apply them in smaller quantities on the lips, sometimes only in the heart of the mouth, to obtain a softer and more harmonious effect.
  • Apply a loose powder to the contours of the mouth : using a small brush, apply a veil of loose powder (transparent or tinted) to the contour of the lips to create a protective barrier and prevent gloss or balm from slipping into fine lines during the day.
