The Mandalorian, Daisy Jones & The Six, L’Affaire Fourniret… Films and series to watch in streaming this week

The streaming platforms have every intention of starting the month of March on a high note, and like every week offer several new films and series to discover. To help you separate the wheat from the chaff, here are our recommendations of things to watch on Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and Canal+.

This week, Digital recommend the series The Mandalorian, Daisy Jones & The Six, The Fourniret Affair and the movies The Father And goodbye up there.

The Mandalorian – season 3 (Disney+)

The Mandalorian’s adventures across the galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has found Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to steer the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies, as he and Grogu continue their journey together.

The return of the adventures of Grogu and Baby Yoda is a can’t-miss event for Star Wars fans and others. This new season promises high stakes, new planets (including Mandalore), new perils, and a Grogu (finally) in full control of the Force. What to hope for eight neat episodes to catch up with the disaster that was the series The Boba Fett Book And Obi-wan Kenobi and reconcile fans with the galactic saga. From March 1 on Disney+.

The Father (Canal+)

The inner journey of an 81-year-old man with dementia, Anthony, whose reality is gradually shattering before our eyes. But it’s also the story of Anne, his daughter, who tries to accompany him through a maze of unanswered questions.

Directed by the French Florian Zeller (The Son), and adapted from his own play, The Father is a heartbreaking dive into the intimacy of a family in the throes of drama, and into the mind of a man who is gradually losing touch with reality. A finely written camera that perfectly highlights the performances of a celestial cast, the formidable Anthony Hopkins in the lead. The film enhances its theatrical story with some good staging ideas, and manages to hit the mark hard. From March 1 on Canal+ and the myCanal platform.

The Fourniret Affair: inside the mind of Monique Olivier (Netflix)

From 1987 to 2003, the crimes of Michel Fourniret made him the most infamous murderer in France. Simple pawn or active accomplice, his wife remains an enigma.

After Gregory, this documentary mini-series is the new rendezvous for fans of true crime and sordid miscellaneous facts. The program mixes archive images and reconstructions, and tries to give some new keys to this case. If the staging is a little too touted and ostentatious at times, it has the merit of creating a meaningful atmosphere, which serves its purpose rather well. Starting March 2 on Netflix.

goodbye up there (Disney+)

Albert Maillard and Edouard Péricourt, two veterans of the Great War, find themselves distraught after the armistice. Albert, who is penniless, and Edouard, the disfigured aristocrat after saving Albert, are forever linked. Together, they decide to rip off the operetta patriots…

Adaptation of the novel by Pierre Lemaitre, Prix Goncourt 2013, goodbye up there is both visually ambitious, endowed with an inspired realization, a gripping plot and an impeccable interpretation. The film manages, beyond all its qualities, to win a soul through brilliant scenes, with a crazy poetry, far too rare in French cinema. A little marvel that we obviously owe to the talent of director and actor Albert Dupontel (Goodbye idiots, The villain), touched by grace. From March 3 on Disney+.

Daisy Jones & the Six (Prime Video)

In 1977, Daisy Jones & the Six were at the top. With Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne as determined stars, the band went from obscurity to light. And then, after a sold-out concert at Soldier Field in Chicago, they called it quits. Years later, the members have agreed to come clean, and explain how an iconic band imploded at the height of their glory.

This ten-part series, based on the acclaimed book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, is a romantic and musical adventure through the effervescent artistic period of the 70s, in the spirit of the film almost famous (Cameron Crowe, 2000). At the helm, we find Scott Neudstadter and Michael H. Weber, accustomed to romances (500 days together, Our opposite stars). Daisy Jones & the Six lacks asperities to really convince, but will satisfy music lovers and fans of Sam Claflin and Riley Keough. Starting March 3 on Amazon Prime Video.
