“The Marvels” streaming: When will Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” sequel land on Disney+?

DISNEY+

“The Marvels” is the last Marvel reboot in 2023. But is it even worth going to the cinema or will the film start streaming on Disney+ soon?

  • “The Marvels” has been running in German cinemas since November 8, 2023.
  • Even if it is not yet possible to determine how successful the film will be, no one is yet expecting it to be a hit.
  • This could ensure that the latest Marvel film ends up on Disney+ in 2023.

Captain Marvel is back! Brie Larson first took on the role of Carol Danvers in 2019, when the former Air Force pilot was touted as an important part of the Avengers’ future.

A lot has happened in the MCU since then, but not in the world of Captain Marvel itself. After her solo adventure, Larson appeared in “Avengers: Endgame” and brief scenes in “Shang-Chi” and “Ms. Marvel”, but in Captain Marvel hasn’t been the focus for a long time. That’s changing now!

Streamers are hoping for a flop

“The Marvels” opened in German cinemas on November 8, 2023 and essentially continues the plot of the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel”. There we saw how the young heroine Kamala Khan suddenly swapped places with her idol Captain Marvel. This phenomenon is now being examined in the cinema; the trailer promises a colorful and entertaining adventure.

However, many Marvel fans don’t seem to be in a big hurry to see “The Marvels.” Advance sales are going slowly and hardly anyone expects it to be a big success. Not good news for Disney, but perhaps for Disney+ subscribers, who will now have to wait much shorter for the stream to start.

Disney+ is no longer transparent

Disney+ has not yet published a start date for “The Marvels” in the stream – understandably, after all, as many people as possible should go to the cinema first and not even consider waiting for the stream release. However, “The Marvels” could actually await us on Disney+ in 2023.

However, Disney has become a little more cautious and rarely releases new films on stream so quickly. In the past, you often only had to wait 45 days until a flop appeared on stream, but with the Pixar film “Elemental”, which initially did very poorly in the cinema, Disney showed perseverance and was ultimately rewarded with extremely decent income.

“Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny” also took a surprisingly long time to arrive, even though it had long been clear that the last Indy film would no longer be a hit. For “The Marvels” this means the following: If “The Marvels” does really badly in the cinemas, Disney could theoretically fall back on the previous 45-day time window, because this would mean that “The Marvels” would appear on the stream exactly at Christmas.

In recent years, Disney+ has often released a big film around Christmas, and “The Marvels” would of course be an option here. At the same time, “Indiana Jones 5” only landed on the Disney+ stream a few days earlier, which is why the streaming service may save the Marvel film for the beginning of 2024.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, the last Marvel film to be released on Disney+, can hardly be used as a comparison, after all, the finale of the “Guardians” trilogy was very successful in cinemas, which meant that the start of the stream was postponed became.

An exact release date cannot yet be predicted, but a launch on Disney+ between December 2023 and February 2024 is very likely. The next Marvel series highlight awaits us in January 2024 with the series “Echo”.
