The maximum number of members doubles in WhatsApp groups

WhatsApp officially increases the group messaging limit to 512 members from 256 previously. Enough to organize the next surprise birthday of a loved one with a little more people than expected.

For the past few weeks, a few beta testers had the chance to add up to 512 people to a WhatsApp group (we hope there were more than 512 to test the function precisely), on the Android, iOS and desktop. WABetaInfo, online media specializing in this instant messaging service, reveals that the feature is being rolled out to everyone in the latest version of the application. A doubling of the maximum number of members in a group on WhatsApp, which therefore goes from 256 to 512.

Up to 512 people per group chat, hello the flood

This expansion of the maximum number of members in a WhatsApp group was rolled out with the June 6 update (2.22.12.77 on Android). As WABetaInfowe were able to verify on the iOS and Android versions that the limit was indeed increased to 512. If you want to check it yourself, you can simply try creating a new group chat and when selecting members, the number maximum will be displayed.

No need for a beta version anymore, therefore, a priori everyone can now enjoy it. However WABetaInfo specifies that “this feature has been released to almost all users today and will be available to everyone within 24 hours“. If you don’t have it yet, make sure you have the latest version of the app.

WhatsApp continues its series of improvements, or at least updates and novelties. Meta’s messaging service works on multi-devices, but also on reactions to photos or even on the modification of messages after sending.
