The mayor of Cholet (Maine-et-Loire), Gilles Bourdouleix, was once again placed in police custody on Tuesday, we learned from a judicial source, confirming information from the regional press.
“I confirm custody“, told AFP the prosecutor of Angers, Eric Bouillard. The magistrate refused to give further information on Tuesday evening, in particular to specify the file which motivated this police custody. According to the regional press, the police showed up early Tuesday morning at the home of the city councilor and he would be heard at the Angers police station.
Mayor since 1995
Gilles Bourdouleix, 62, had already been placed in police custody a year ago, in January 2022. Three preliminary investigations, entrusted to the judicial police of Angers, were opened in 2021 concerning the town hall of Cholet for misappropriation, illegal taking of interest, breaches of weapons regulations as well as forgery and use of forgery.

The director general of services and the deputy director general were then also placed in police custody at the same time as the mayor. Gille Bourdouleix has been mayor of Cholet (53,000 inhabitants) since 1995.
