The merge rolled out to the Ropsten testnet on June 8

The public Ethereum (ETH) Ropsten testnet, which, as its name suggests, allows testing of blockchain development before deployment on the mainnet, should to integrate “the merge” on June 8, in preparation for the transition of Ethereum’s main blockchain to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus.

Ethereum engineer, Parathi Jayanathisubmitted a request for the Ropsten testnet fusion configuration code on Monday, suggesting that the code is ready for implementation.

Merge is the much-anticipated Ethereum upgrade when the current Ethereum mainnet is combined with the beacon chain PoS system.

So far, many tests have been done to study how fusion works. Just last month, Ethereum developers began testing how the change would work on a “shadow fork”.

One of the final checks would be to test how the merge works on the main Ethereum public testnet. As such, Ropsten is considered the best replica of the Ethereum mainnet, as it follows a similar network structure, allowing developers to experience their work in a real setting.

The deployment of the fusion on the Ropsten public testnet will be done in two stages. First, the “genesis” version of the consensus mechanism will be created, which is expected to happen on May 30. Then the merge will be executed on the testnet.

“This is an important step towards the merger of the Ethereum mainnet later this year,” said declared Preston Van Loona leading Ethereum developer at Prysmatic Labs.

In mid-April, Tim Beiko, developer of Ethereum, said the merger is now expected “a few months after June.” He added: “No firm date yet, but we are definitely in the final chapter of the PoW. [proof-of-work] on Ethereum.”

Ethereum is currently changing hands around $1,945, down 3% in the last 24 hours, 6% in the last week, and 36% in the last month. Furthermore, the coin is down almost 60% from its all-time high of $4,878 recorded in November 2021, according to CoinGecko.
