The mistake not to make with a hair mask according to a hairdresser, “it damages the hair”

You think you’re doing the right thing, but you’re probably applying your hair mask the wrong way. A hairdresser reveals the very common mistake that is made with this type of product and which tends to damage the hair.

Repairing, hydrating, radiance-enhancing… Hair masks are ultra-effective products for taking care of hair in depth and treating very specific problems. But be careful, certain uses can completely cancel their effects or even further damage the hair. This is what explains the hairdresser Pierre Carli in a video posted on his social networks.

In this video, the hairdresser deconstructs the preconceived idea that it is necessary leave a mask on your hair overnight for it to be effective. In fact, many people think that the longer the application time for a hair treatment, the more powerful its action… But this is completely false, and we will explain why.

Here’s why you shouldn’t leave a hair mask on all night

Wet hair is hair much more fragile especially if it is discolored so it will be much more sensitive to rubbing and rubbing. So you risk damaging them instead.” explains Pierre Carli. And even if the mask is applied to dry hair, its high water content naturally moistens the hair fiber which will be more fragile and more likely to break on contact with the pillowcase. The hairdresser adds that hair masks are designed to be placed on the hair for just a few minutes because the hair, like the skin, has maximum absorption capacity : “In addition to that, once the mask has been on for 10, 15, 20 minutes, there is no real effect once the hair is satisfied, it no longer takes anything”.

As the hairdresser advises, if you want to boost the effects of your hair mask, respect its exposure time and wrap your hair in a hot towel. The heat helps open the scales and penetrate the mask deeply in the hair fiber.
