The mistakes revealed by the German far right

“We have to wait until the old regime comes to an economic end and the spark spreads from Austria, Italy or France. It will eventually happen. We will then have to prepare ourselves for merciless combat. » These few words, written in June 2019 by a deputy from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, were not intended for the public. And for good reason: they were posted on a WhatsApp group reserved for AfD elected members of the Bundestag. A group to which journalists from the German public channels NDR and WDR had access. About 40,000 messages exchanged during the 2017-2021 legislature and whose revelation, Friday, May 20, makes it possible to know what AfD deputies say when they believe themselves to be among themselves.

In these statements, there is a lot of talk about their opponents. Angela Merkel ? “That rat at our head!” A traitor to the people who should end her life in prison”we read from the pen of a far-right elected official, while another dreams of seeing the then Chancellor judged for her “crimes” by a “Victor’s court, a Nuremberg 2.0”. The homosexual elected representatives of the other parties are also particularly insulted: “Disgusting Runt”, “radical and evil anus”. Married to a man, Jens Spahn (CDU), for example, bears the brunt of this homophobia: one day when the name of the Minister of Health is circulating to succeed Ursula von der Leyen at the Ministry of Defense, an AfD deputy ironically “the new minister” who could lead the army. “With Spahn, the Bundeswehr will return to breech-loading weapons”replied one of his colleagues.

The internal life of the AfD is also a big topic of conversation. In November 2019, an elected official expressed concern about the growing influence of the most extremists within the party: “We have to choose what our line is. Do we want a National Socialist or Liberal-Conservative party? » Six months later, another writes: “We have to ask ourselves if we want avowed Nazis in the party, let alone in leadership positions. Me no. »

“You have to know how to close it”

At the beginning of 2020, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution decided to put ” under surveillance “ the current “Der Flügel” (“the wing”), led by the ultra-radical Björn Höcke: ” That does not surprise me “writes a deputy. ” Why ? »asks a supporter of Mr. Höcke. “Sometimes you have to know how to shut up. It’s so complicated to stop talking about the IIIand Reich? »she answers.
