Disappeared in 2002, the TVR Griffith is preparing to make its big comeback next year, with a thermal version as well as a 100% electric variant.
It’s a brand that we haven’t heard from for a while. And for good reason, the British firm TVR, launched in 1947, had officially ceased its activities in 2012, on the decision of its leader Nikolai Smolensky, due in particular to the failure of Sagaris. However, the builder never really died, since it was sold in 2014 to a syndicate of investors, led by Les Edgard.
A new start for the English brand, when the latter announced in 2017 the return of the legendary Griffith, which would then again take the form of a sports coupe, which would carry the V8 taken from the 6th generation Ford Mustang. If several images had been unveiled, the project was quickly put on hold. But now it would be back on track, as announced by the brand itself.
A new trendy version
Initially, only one version was announced, only thermal therefore, equipped with a V8 revised and corrected by Cosworth and based on a chassis signed Gordon Murray. A few years later, the British firm seems to have somewhat revised its plans, also announcing a new electric variant. An ambitious goal for the brand, which is already several years behind schedule. All in a difficult period, marked by shortages of components.
Anyway, TVR seems determined to produce its first electric car, while the manufacturer has just signed a financing agreement with the mining company Ensorcia Metals, based in South America and specialized in the extraction of lithium. . A partnership that is of capital importance, and which will allow the firm to realize its project over the next few years.
More models to come
Convinced by this new adventure, TVR has also formalized the establishment of an unprecedented partnership with Formula E, since the firm was one of the discipline’s sponsors during the Monaco e-Prix, and will also be present on the London test, which will take place at the end of July. Who knows, maybe a first prototype of the electric coupé will be presented there?
And for good reason, the English firm plans that the production version be officially launched by 2024, while no technical information has yet been revealed. Later, other models will expand the range, including a convertible, although it is not yet clear whether it will be electric or not.
