The names of the three candidates for the presidency of Radio France revealed

The examination of the mailbox of the Authority for the regulation of audiovisual and digital communication (Arcom, ex-CSA) will therefore have revealed the candidacy of three people for the presidency of Radio France. In addition to Sibyle Veil, the outgoing president, who had announced on September 6 that she wanted to be reinstated at the head of the “round house”, the former journalist from Radio France, Florent Chatain, and the current secretary general of the Court of Auditors, Maïa Wirgin, will be heard by the Arcom college on Monday, December 19.

If the Arcom had to choose one of these personalities rather than Mme Veil, a tiling period would open when the appointment is announced, scheduled for January 16, 2023, at the latest. The mandate of the new president of Radio France, for five years, will begin in mid-April.

If the candidacies of Sibyle Veil and Florent Chatain were expected, that of Maïa Wirgin turns out to be a surprise. Mr. Chatain, an in-house journalist who also worked for France 3, had expressed his desire to apply at the end of August for “to flatten the human management” from Radio France. For his part, M.me Wirgin, former chief of staff of Mathieu Gallet, was secretary general of Radio France, between 2015 and 2018, before being cultural adviser to Edouard Philippe at Matignon, in 2019 and 2020. In her candidacy, the latter wishes push Radio France to create “new offers” shared with other public broadcasting companies (France Télévisions, France Média Monde, the National Audiovisual Institute, Arte and TV5 Monde).

“Three major successes”

These two personalities will have to prove, through their careers and thanks to their strategic project, that the advisers gathered around Roch-Olivier Maistre would be wrong not to renew Sibyle Veil in her functions. While the ex-CSA had already chosen her, in 2018, to lead the house which had welcomed her three years earlier to the position of deputy director in charge of operations and finance, the leader gave her nothing but satisfaction. . In any case, this is what the “wise men” expressed in their reasoned opinion on the results of Radio France between 2018 and 2021, published in July.

In their eyes, “Three major successes must be credited to Radio France” : “Audience Success” of its antennae, “the evolution of the digital strategy”, which allowed the group to accomplish its own “platforming”and “the democratization of culture, particularly for young audiences” (through podcasts and concerts, in particular).
