(Boursier.com) — The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) has chosen Thales to deploy the NCOP system and train users in around 30 command centres. The deployment will take place both on fixed operational sites and on deployed sites.

Today, joint operations are based on different components (Land, Navy, Air) which each have numerous command systems generating masses of geo-referenced operational information.
NCOP aims to collect, aggregate and correlate all this information, in a cybersecure environment., in order to develop a single global view of the situation in the theaters of operation. The latter ensures that each entity has a shared vision of intentions, actions and location of forces. This common vision is called COP (Common Operational Picture) at NATO.

Open architecture

To meet this need, Thales has developed a software system based on an open architecture, business modules derived from its experience in chains of command and integrating commercial and military standards. This system was designed to provide the operational community with secure access to multiple Shared Operational Views or Common Operational Pictures (COP) via a base map.

After being selected for the first and second increments of the NCOP program, the Thales Group continues to support NATO in improving its coordination, planning and mission conduct capabilities. NCOP indeed allows a synchronized management of the situations of all the forces and thus facilitates planning and collaborative decision-making. This ensures the informational superiority of the decision-makers of the joint staff.

The NCOP 2 system is currently under development and will be deployed in 2023 after a field test phase. The teams will intervene to deploy this new NCOP 2 capacity in the customer’s own infrastructure while ensuring the operational continuity of the service provided to end users. ?

Complete training

In addition to the installation, the range of services offered by Thales and GEOS includes comprehensive training for administrators and users as well as on-site technical and operational assistance throughout the system handling phase.

“This new selection strengthens our historic collaboration with the NATO Communications and Information Agency. We will build on the ongoing development of the NCOP 2 system and demonstrate Thales’ ability to provide fully integrated solutions to our clients” commented Gérard Herby, Vice-President Protection Systems at Thales.
