The operator Lime has released a brand new version of its electric scooter: here is the Gen4 Seated, which has a padded seat and storage space. For the moment, this generation is not launched in Europe.
Lime is one of the most popular e-scooter and e-bike operators in the world. Despite its defeat in Paris – a citizen consultation voted against maintaining self-service scooters in Paris – the Californian company continues to innovate and optimize its machines. The latest novelty is called Scooter Gen4 Seated.
It is simply an improved version of its fourth generation of electric scooters. But above all, a model equipped with a padded seat, under which there is storage space. In the photo published in the official press release, we can see a book and some personal effects.
More comfort on several levels
Based on its pilot program conducted in Nashville and Chicago earlier this year, Lime estimates that users are riding longer and more frequently with this iteration of the scooter. Also, the type of audience would change: more elderly people and women – +33 new users – would be attracted by this solution.
On a technical level, some interesting improvements should be noted. The American company has notably improved the suspension of its vehicle in order to improve comfort. In this same philosophy, it added bigger wheels. Finally, the deck has been lowered to optimize the center of gravity and make getting on and off the scooter easier.
Which cities are eligible?
For the moment, this Gen4 Seated seems to be confined to specific markets. Lime says it will be available in Chicago and Milwaukee, as well as launching in more than a dozen North American cities over the next few years. For its part, the media Zag Daily also mentions Australia and New Zealand, rather in 2024.
Should we expect a launch in Europe? Difficult to say frankly, but nothing can be ruled out. Before that, the company should probably test this new generation in a certain number of countries, and over a certain period of time, to get a first idea of its success.
