The streaming platform Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for its next event series this Wednesday: The New Look.
Consisting of ten episodes and created by Todd A. Kessler (Damages, Bloodline), this drama series will be available from February 14 on the Apple service and on myCanal, the Canal+ platform.
Dior versus Chanel
Worn by Ben Mendelsohn (Secret Invasion) in the role of Christian Dior and Juliette Binoche (The Passion of Dodin Bouffant) in the guise of Coco Chanel, The New Look is inspired by a true story set against the backdrop of World War II.
In Paris, under Nazi occupation, Christian Dior brings the world back to life through fashion. But as he gains notoriety, the reign of Coco Chanel, until now considered the greatest fashion designer, is threatened.
According to the official synopsis, the series follows “the surprising and intertwined stories of Christian Dior’s contemporaries and rivals, from Chanel to Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga and many others; and offers a magnificent dive into the workshop, the creations and the clothes created by Christian Dior in collaboration with the House of Dior.“

A stellar cast
Although the show was filmed entirely in Paris, the actors speak the language of Shakespeare and not that of Molière. We don’t find many French actors in the casting of The New Look.
Alongside Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche, Maisie Williams (Game Of Thrones) is Catherine Dior, John Malkovich (Space Force) slips into the shoes of Lucien Lelong, Emily Mortimer (Mary Poppins Returns) lends her features to Elsa Lombardi, Claes Bang (Dracula) plays Spatz and Glenn Close (Damages) plays the role of Carmel Snow.
The soundtrack of the series is also the work of renowned artists. Produced by Jack Antonoff, it brings together covers of popular songs from the first half of the 20th century performed by Bleachers, Florence Welch, Lana Del Rey, Matty Healy (The 1975), beabadoobee, Nick Cave and Perfume Genius.
The first three episodes of The New Look will be available on February 14 on Apple TV+, followed by an episode every Wednesday until April 3.
As a reminder, since April 20, Canal+ subscribers can enjoy Apple TV+ programs at no additional cost, from the first subscription level.
