The next electric Porsche has (almost) no more aesthetic secrets to reveal

A few months before its reveal, the future electric Porsche Macan has been glimpsed during road tests. The opportunity to discover his design when he hardly wears any camouflage anymore. It will be based on the brand new PPE platform.

The Porsche brand will have to turn to all-electric if it wants to continue to be able to sell cars in Europe. Indeed, the German firm will be forced, like all the others, to no longer market thermal models on the Old Continent from 2035. And it is working precisely in this direction.

Inspired by the Taycan

In 2019, the manufacturer lifted the veil on its Taycan, which is neither more nor less its first electric model. Rival of the Tesla Model S, the sedan was then declined in Sports Turismo estate then in Cross Turismo version slightly raised. But of course, Porsche cannot stop there and plans to expand its electric range.

We know in particular that she will electrify your 718 Boxster, but for the moment, she has not communicated much about it. Another flagship model in its catalog will also benefit from this treatment, namely the Macan. Last November, the firm already gave us some technical information on this subject, while photos had also been published. But now a new salvo has been unveiled by the site Carscoops.

The opportunity to discover the electric SUV almost without any camouflage and to see that it displays a front face which reminds us of the Porsche Taycan. This is thanks to the lights, which are inspired by it, while the rest has its own identity. We find a large air intake, which gives it an aggressive facies, but which nevertheless remains quite refined.

In profile, this new version remains very close to the current one, even if the dimensions could change slightly. Note that the handles are traditional, which should slightly increase the Cx (coefficient of drag). At the rear, the manufacturer has installed fake tailpipes to deceive spy photographers. But the lights should be those of the production model.

A new platform

For the moment, the driving position of this new version has not yet been unveiled, but it should benefit from significant work on the part of the brand’s teams. We know, however, that the electric SUV, cousin of the Audi Q6 e-tron, will be based on the new PPE platform co-developed by the two manufacturers. The new Macan will display a maximum power of approximately 603 horsepower, for 1,000 Nm of torque.

A single battery should be offered, with a capacity of 100 kWh gross. A high figure, when you know that a large pack is not necessarily a good thing, quite the contrary. The autonomy of the SUV, which will be sold alongside the current version with a heat engine, has not yet been announced. She should spin around 500 kilometers approximately.

According to the latest information, the future Macan will only be no one-pedal drive mode, unlike most electric cars. The manufacturer would indeed be opposed to this system, especially since the Taycan already offers strong regeneration under braking. This allows you to recover up to 290kW. For the time being, no information has been revealed on the charging of the next electric SUV, which will see the light of day next year.

Porsche is also working on launching another raised model, which will be positioned above the Cayenne. This will adopt a more upscale positioning.
