The Nintendo Switch 2 will let you play your old games with better graphics

Good news for Nintendo Switch owners, your games should work well on the next generation, which for now will be called Switch 2. It seems that the console will be backwards compatible.

The Nintendo Switch 2, the presumed successor to the famous hybrid console, will be backwards compatible with existing Switch games, according to a new report from a Portuguese website. The report also claims that the Switch 2 will have more power and features than the current model. It therefore corroborates the information that had been given during other leaks.

The report comes from Universo Nintendo, a website that has a history of disclosing accurate information about Nintendo’s plans. The site cites a podcast called X do Controle by PH Brazil, which was also shared by Centro Leaks, a reliable source for gaming leaks. The podcast states that the Switch 2 will not only be able to play already available Switch games, but also enhance them with better graphics and performance, thanks to the additional processing power of the new console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to improve certain original titles

According to information relayed by Universo Nintendo, the Japanese giant will allow its developers to deploy updates on their Switch titles, which could allow them to benefit from better graphics on the Switch 2. By taking advantage of the new Nvidia chip, games would then be much smoother, or offer more ambitious graphics.

Nvidia is reportedly creating a new business unit to design chips for hardware companies, and has already reached an agreement with Nintendo for the Switch 2. The report also suggests that Nvidia tried to convince Microsoft to use its chips for the next Xbox, but was unsuccessful.

The podcast also states that Nintendo will host a Nintendo Direct event next week, during which it will announce a few new games and updates for the Switch. However, the big reveal of the Switch 2 will take place in March, during a special hardware event. Finally, the podcast also mentions that there will be a Pokémon presentation later this month, which could tie in with the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
