The toll is heavy. Four children are already hospitalized with Covid-19, at Bordeaux University Hospital, including two in intensive care. "Among our 87 hospitalized patients there are 4 minors under the age of 15, including two in intensive care", alert Yann Bubien, director general of the CHU, in the columns of the Parisian. "It proves that Covid-19 affects everyone, without exception and that, therefore, each of our behaviors has an impact on the entire population".
An increase in cases that worries hospitals, but also families, with the closure of schools and cases which are multiplying in France. Yet, since the start of the epidemic, many pediatricians have claimed that Covid-19 does not or very little affect children. According to a report from the High Council for Public Health, published on September 9, it indicated that "the risk of transmission exists above all from adult to adult and from adult to child and rarely from child to child or child to adult", added the HCSP. "The transmissions occur especially within the family or during social gatherings with high density of people outside schools".
“Exceptional situations”
However, these cases in children do not seem to worry Robert Cohen, pediatrician and vice-president of the French Pediatric Society. Also, globally, the figures for pediatric cases seem reassuring, with 1% to 5% of all cases.
