If OnePlus has committed in November 2022 to providing 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security patches on all of its new high-end smartphones, the manufacturer’s old devices are unfortunately not affected by this policy.

So, for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, users had to settle for three major Android updates, and four years of security updates. And as you may knowboth devices were launched in 2020. Therefore, the official end of their care was expected this year.

End clap for software monitoring of OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro

It is now done, with the deployment this April 24, 2024 of the very latest Android security update promised by OnePlus. Distribution of this update OxygenOS 13.1.0.587 started in India and is expected to expand to other countries in the coming days. Unsurprisingly, no major changes on the horizon, the patch merely improves the security of the system.

Like all OTA updates, you will receive a notification on your smartphone to inform you of its availability. You are free to check manually by going to the System section in the Settings of your device. Then look for the tab “About my device” > Oxygen OS and start checking for any updates.

OnePlus thanks users

Note that once is not customary, OnePlus has sent a little message to the attention of owners of OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro who now find themselves without support: “As you may know, with the release of OxygenOS 13.1.0.587, we have officially delivered on our Lifecycle Maintenance promise for the OnePlus 8/8 Pro. It has been a memorable journey and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to you all for your tremendous support along the way,” writes the brand.

She continues: “Here we would like to thank everyone who actively shared their comments and opinions, reported bugs and helped us optimize OxygenOS better. Thanks to your constant support, we have finally created a dozen stable versions to guarantee a better overall experience. Question to owners of OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, will the end of support encourage you to change devices? Tell us in the comments.
