The Apple conference presenting the new iPhone range is today. I’m not going to bury the subject: the iPhone is becoming more and more powerful. And Apple is expected to increase the base storage capacity of the Pro models from 128 to 256 GB.
Since the release of the iPhone 12 three years ago, the Pro line of Apple smartphones have been sold with a base storage of 128 GB. Since then, the iPhone’s camera system has been improved to capture details in low light, and Pro Res video recording is here. Consequence for iPhone memory: the influx of content creation (and content creators) meant that more and more customers found themselves with less and less storage memory.
And I haven’t even taken into account the space taken up by the iPhone’s system settings and default apps, both of which account for about 13 GB of memory.
Apple, take an example from Samsung and its Galaxy S23 Ultra
The quick fix is to offer users more storage capacity from the start. Samsung did it with its Galaxy S23 Ultra. And it made the camera experience much more enjoyable.
Because there is nothing worse than investing in a smartphone costing more than 1,000 euros only to realize a few months later that you either have to delete existing photos and videos or subscribe to a monthly subscription of Cloud storage to stay afloat.
Plus, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max price rumored to increase, setting the base storage at 256GB would make the extra charge a bit more justifiable.
I’m not asking for 8K video recording, faster USB-C charging, or an in-display fingerprint sensor. Apple, just give me a little more local storage space to save all the photos and videos I’m probably going to capture every day, every week, and every month.
