While we should very soon see him hold the reins of the prestigious Ferrari team in the next Michael Mann biopic, American actor Adam Driver, only 40 years old, can already boast of having a rich and varied career. The man who has worked in turn with Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee and Ridley Scott is also (perhaps even above all) known to the general public for having played the dark Kylo Ren in the latest Star Wars trilogy.

Rebellious son of Han Solo and Leia who preferred to follow the path of his grandfather Darth Vader, this young Sith lord is notably remembered by fans for an emblematic sequence in Episode VII, which Adam Driver still hears about Today.

After murdering his own father in The force awakensKylo Ren followed a tortuous and complex path, constantly oscillating between darkness and light to finally, in the denouement of Episode IX, join forces with Rey to defeat Emperor Palpatine.

However, as Adam Driver recently revealed at the microphone of The Rich Eisen Showthis journey does not seem to correspond with the one that JJ Abrams (director of episodes VII and IX) had described to him when he met him.

Lucasfilm Ltd.

“I had in mind the general arc that JJ Abrams wanted to set up, and that then changed, but his idea was a journey almost the opposite of Vader’s”confided the actor.

“Vader started out confident and fully committed to the path of the Dark Side, and in the final film he was weaker and more vulnerable. [Abrams] wanted to do the opposite, start where the character was most confused and vulnerable, and by the end of the trilogy he would have been completely devoted to the Dark Side. So I tried to keep that arc in mind, without worrying about whether it would ultimately be that journey. Because it’s obviously changed.”

Explaining that Rian Johnson (director of Episode VIII) had taken a different direction while continuing to follow the character, Adam Driver added that things had really changed in the last installment, which focused more on the duality relationship between Kylo Ren and Rey than was originally planned.
