“The Orville” may not be as well-known as “Star Trek,” but it is now just as popular. Fans have been waiting for a fourth season for a long time, now there is positive news.
The long wait for a new series season is often painful enough, but fans suffer even more when the fate of their favorite series has not yet been determined. That’s how it is with “The Orville”: The series was canceled after two seasons, then returned to Hulu with season 3 and after that the sci-fi story just became quiet.
“The Orville” has not been canceled again, but the long-awaited extension is still a long time coming. After Adrianne Palicki had already stated that she would not return even if there was another season, John LaMarr actor J. Lee expressed more optimism. But what does leading actor and “The Orville” creator Seth MacFarlane say about the status of his series?
It is not over till it’s over
Hulu programming chief Craig Erwich chose his words very carefully in 2023 when commenting on the fate of “The Orville”:
It’s a great series and I know the fans loved having it back in their lives. And Seth [MacFarlane] did a great job in front of and behind the camera, as unique as only he can be. But we have nothing to reveal.
Craig Erwich
In an interview with TV Line, MacFarlane was amused by this meaningless statement, but at the same time agreed with it.
All I can say is the same as Hulu, which is that the show is not dead. No one from the network told me she was dead, so we’re proceeding with those assumptions.
Seth MacFarlane
Since MacFarlane has been busy producing and marketing his series “Ted” in recent months, season 4 of “The Orville” hasn’t made much progress recently. Scott Grimes, Lt. in “The Orville” Gordon Malloy, who is also a personal friend of MacFarlane, also assumes there will be a sequel:
Just before the strike, it feels like we’re announcing a Season 4. I think it is more than likely that we will return. [Die Serie] is [Seths] little kid, he loves doing The Orville and it would be a shame if we didn’t do another season. So I would say I’m optimistic.
