Et if we allowed hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles to recharge with wind and photovoltaic power when there is wind and sun – or with surplus nuclear power at night – so that they can then deliver energy on the grid during peaks in consumption? Here is the promise of vehicle-to-grid (or V2G), an idea born in 2011, after the Fukushima disaster, when Japanese people in distress wanted to use the battery of their electric car to power their home.
