the outsider Dominique Carlac’h receives the support of the bosses of Orange and Renault

Two bosses of the CAC 40 invite themselves in the race for the presidency of Medef. On Monday May 29, the general manager of Orange, Christel Heydemann, and the president of Renault, Jean-Dominique Senard, informed the World that they supported Dominique Carlac’h, one of the two personalities in the running for the position of number one in the employers’ movement. Symbolically and in terms of communication, the 54-year-old candidate scores points, while her chances of winning were considered weak against Patrick Martin, presented as arch-favorite. It shows that leading figures in the world of services and industry believe in its capacity as a spokesperson for companies. The ballot, scheduled for July 6, is perhaps not decided in advance.

This announcement comes at a key time. Tuesday, May 30 in the morning, Mme Carlac’h and Mr. Martin pass a great oral before the general assembly of Medef – a body in which sit delegates of the federations and territorial structures which adhere to the organization. During the hearings, open to the press, the two contenders for the succession of Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux will be put to the test by their peers. The exercise takes on an important dimension, in particular for the major voters – who number around 1,150 – who still take the time to reflect to make their choice.

Mrs. Heydemann and Mr. Senard will not slip a ballot into the ballot box on July 6. But for them, the vote must turn to the advantage of Mr.me Carlac’h. This is what they indicate, in a joint declaration, very laudatory for the candidate. They find her “brave”, “dynamic” And “determined to make the voice of entrepreneurs heard in the public debate”. Highlighting its “modern and concrete vision”they also argue that“she does not belong to any chapel” and that she will be able “to federate all companies, whatever their size or sector of activity”.

A first screening

Their position clearly delights Mr.me Carlac’h. She sees it “recognition of competence and vision” she wears, from a woman and a man who knew ” Enforce “ in business life. From now on, she adds, the duel between her and Mr. Martin is no longer confined to a problem “of incarnation”as has often been said since the beginning of the campaign: place for the battle of the “ideas”.

The initiative of the leaders of Orange and Renault is giving a boost to a designation process, officially open for almost three months, which did not seem to have aroused great interest among the employers’ circles. At the end of an initial sifting, three personalities had obtained the number of sponsorships required to be able to present themselves: Mr. Martin and Mr.me Carlac’h therefore, but also Pierre Brajeux – the latter finally deciding to join the fifties, just like two other aspirants to the position of head of Medef, who had left the race a little earlier (Guillaume Cairou and Oliver Klotz).
