The Paris Bourse ended down 0.28% the traditional half-session of December 24 on Friday, in a hungry volume of trade, most other markets being closed.
The flagship CAC 40 index lost 19.57 points to 7,086.58 points, with a trading volume of barely half a billion euros. It ends the penultimate week of the year with a gain of 2.31%, bringing its progression to 27.65% since the start of the year.
The Parisian coast spent the first part of the session in the green, before gradually running out of steam.
“Father Christmas has already passed earlier this week”, summarizes with AFP Alexandre Neuvy, director of private management of Amplegest, referring to the three sessions of clear increase between Tuesday and Thursday.
Since the end of the central bank meetings in mid-December, “the health news and the evolution of sovereign interest rates are the elements that move the market. But, today, the interest rate market is closed, so there is even less incentive, ”he explains. Investors in Wall Street, Frankfurt and Milan are not on the bridge, thus emptying the order books.
During the week, “the markets did not react” to the accelerated increase in new contaminations in several regions of the world, including France, notes Mr. Neuvy.
Conversely, new studies showing that the risk of hospitalization is lower than with previous forms of the coronavirus have given rise to optimism.
The two best weekly performances of the CAC 40 index ended slightly down: Airbus, boosted by a new contract with the French government, fell 0.14% to 111.68 euros (+ 7.24% over the week ).
