After long months of waiting, Peugeot has formalized its new e-208. The city car of the French brand offers a small facelift, almost 4 years after its release.
It was one of the most anticipated announcements of this summer in the field of electric cars, and now it’s official: Peugeot unveiled the new version of the e-208 this Thursday, July 6. An electric vehicle that is experiencing its first redesign, four years after its launch.
A model that quickly became popular by being the best-selling model in France in 2022, the 208 made an impression with its very sporty appearance for a city car. For its first redesign, the Lion brand wanted to continue on the same line, while adding a touch of modernity.
A modernized appearance
Among the major changes to the new electric 208, we first notice Peugeot’s new lighting signature, with the presence of three long vertical luminous claws located under the vehicle’s front headlights, also present on the 508 and the e- 2008. Arranged in glossy black inserts, these elements are intended to give the e-208 “a more solid and visually wider posture”as the French brand explains in its press release.
Red, horizontal claws are also arranged at the rear of the vehicle to serve as stop lights.
The new electric 208 also has an up-to-date grille, with a grille that blends in with the color of the bodywork. In addition, we also note the presence of the new Peugeot logo on this same grille. As far as body colors are concerned, the new vehicle from the Lion brand offers 7 different colours: Agueda Yellow, Selenium Grey, Artense Grey, Perla Black, Banquise White, Elixir Red and Vertigo Blue.
In terms of rims, which will be 16 and 17 inches, Peugeot offers originality in its design with 4 spokes and its logo at the crossroads of the latter.
On the other hand, no change is to be noted regarding the dimensions of the e-208: Peugeot’s new car is still 4,055 m long, 1,745 m wide and 1.43 m high.
A slightly modified interior
The interior of the e-208 has some slight changes, which are worth observing closely. For example, the central touch screen goes from 7 inches to 10 inches. A way to better control Peugeot’s infotainment system, named Peugeot I-Connect.
The cabin also has a new ambient lighting system, with eight colors available to motorists. Note, among the more anecdotal details, the presence of a more compact steering wheel, several USB-C sockets, to facilitate the recharging of smartphones or other portable devices, or even upholstery brought up to date.
Up to 400 km range
In terms of the capacities and performance of the new electric 208, Peugeot offers a 100% electric 156 hp engine, with a 51 kWh battery, for nearly 400 km of range on the WLTP combined cycle. When it comes to recharging the restyled e-208, charging times from 20% to 80% vary from 30 minutes, from a 100 kW public terminal, to 11 hours and 10 minutes from a reinforced socket of 3.2kW.
Several devices are also put forward by the French manufacturer with regard to driver safety, such as several warning systems in the event of involuntary crossing of the line and risk of collision, or even high definition cameras for the parking.
Customers will be able to order the new e-208 from the start of the school year and choose between one of the three versions offered by Peugeot: the Active version, the Allure version, and the GT version. But for now, the price range has not been revealed, while the e-208 will be marketed from November 2023.
