The Peugeot e-3008 brings out the heavy artillery

The previous generation of the Peugeot 3008, which appeared in 2016, can boast of having been the most profitable model that the French automobile industry has seen for a long time. The car of the successful executive or the well-off retiree, this model, distributed in 1.3 million units, has until now achieved a margin estimated at around 10,000 euros for each vehicle sold. An exceptional amount for a general brand, and which has largely contributed to the good health of the manufacturer.

Renewing such a goose that lays golden eggs appears to be a delicate operation. Especially when competition has awakened, notably that of rival Renault, and we have to adapt to electrification. The designers of the new generation have not revolutionized the style, but it has become less formal, with more angular cutouts and a silhouette that is both more massive and dynamic.

Still manufactured in Sochaux, the 3008 (4.54 m) is extended by nine centimeters and adopts a so-called “fastback” rear profile. A subtle artifact makes it possible to visually tilt the end of the roof in the style of a coupe without reducing habitability.

Bourgeois car

The 3008 deploys its discreet charm of a bourgeois car – a specialty in which Peugeot has excelled for over a century – with mastery. An external sign of social success, this SUV plays the part of “premium” with just the right amount of sobriety. The chrome has disappeared, and the available shades are “good as it should be”. Several variations of gray, black, white, dark blue and – for any fantasy – a duck blue. Fans of outdoor lighting saturated with LEDs will be disappointed.

The interior, meanwhile, is designed like a high-tech cockpit. On the second finishing level, two curved screens joined horizontally and as if suspended above the dashboard welcome passengers. The display is a little confusing and the controls are not always intuitive, but overall it has its effect and suggests that you get what you pay for.

In this regard, prices for the 3008 start from 38,490 euros, which confirms the desire to continue to make one “cash machine”as we unabashedly recognize at Peugeot.

The e-3008 version from 44,990 euros

These days, an ambitious mid-size SUV must also be offered with a 100% electric engine. The e-3008 version (from 44,990 euros, bonus of 4,000 euros not deducted) is the first to be marketed, and Peugeot is rolling out the red carpet under the footsteps of the electricity fairy.
