Star of the hacking world, the Flipper Zero can now flirt with video game fans. A new accessory allows the small gadget to transform into a portable console.

A little all-purpose gadget, the Flipper Zero has just gained a new feature. Or rather, a small module built especially for the device has just given it a bunch of new uses. In collaboration with the Raspberry Pi foundation (which markets the microcomputer of the same name), the company Flipper Devices has just marketed an add-on to the pentesting gadget allowing, among other things, to play video games.

A brick breaker on Flipper Zero

The “Video Game Module for Flipper Zero” as it goes by its nickname is sold for €49 and adds a ton of more or less useful features to the tamagotchi of hacking. Powered by an RP2040 microcontroller, the accessory offers the possibility of transferring the Flipper Zero screen to an external monitor so as not to damage your eyes on the tiny 1.4 inch monochrome screen of the gadget. The only limitation is that the HDMI port is limited to a resolution of 640 x 480 px at 60 Hz.

The RP2040 chip is also capable of equipping with an accelerometer, allowing the Flipper Zero to be used as a console/game controller. In the demo posted on the site, we can see the two accessories controlling a puzzle platform. brick on a TV screen. As the Raspebrry foundation is accustomed to, the Video Game Module also has GPIO pins allowing you to connect external accessories or even game controllers. Obviously, the Flipper Zero will not replace your PS5, but the Adding the Raspberry module increases the possibilities offered by the gadget, beyond being able to play video games.

Increased possibilities

Glued together the RP2040 and the Flipper Zero can serve as a wireless mouse, its USB-C port allows it to be connected to any computer and the support for the python language should allow DIY enthusiasts and other developers to offer additional tools capable of running on the Flipper Zero.
