In the podcast by Oliver Pocher (45) and his wife Amira (30), things are going haywire again. Right at the beginning of the new episode of “Die Pochers!”, available exclusively from Podimo, they talk about Sylvie Meis (45), who is said to have had handbags worth 800,000 euros stolen. The comedian and the presenter get caught up in a kind of fundamental discussion about branded clothes, cars and superficiality.

“It’s not funny at all”

“Sylvie Meis no longer has any handbags,” jokes Oliver Pocher at first, before both make it clear that this is actually a serious issue. “It’s not funny at all,” says Amira. “Of course a burglary and everything that happens there is very antisocial […]”, he says. On the other hand, in his opinion, there is no reason to own handbags of such value. The “Hamburger Abendblatt” reported a few days agothat burglars allegedly got into Meis’ apartment in the Eppendorf district of Hamburg and stole several bags.

Others have watches, stocks or cash in the safe, Amira interjects. He, on the other hand, wonders how many Birkin bags – a handbag model from the luxury brand Hermès that has been popular for decades – one can own. Then she now has 20 or 25 less.

“That’s exactly what pisses me off about society and your opinion, I have to tell you honestly,” she replies. Just because he doesn’t carry handbags doesn’t mean he can’t decide whether you should have that many bags or not. “Everyone has different interests in life. Some make bags happy.” The presenter continues to counter him and alludes to how you can only spend money on expensive cars or a visit to the Super Bowl.

The Instagram burglars

In Oliver Pocher’s view, it could attract criminals if you present yourself with valuables on the Internet. According to him, Meis did that on Instagram with a photo in her “clothes room”. “That’s also the reason why there’s a warning,” he says.

“I showed very, very little with us,” explains Amira Pocher. The two were also broken into at the beginning of 2022. The guy who got on them “didn’t know who we were.” Burglaries are also common in the neighborhood, regardless of whether you show things or not. However, she also believes that the likelihood of a break-in is higher if a thief can find out when someone is at home or who lives where.

“Pure waste” and the value of a human being

Having so many bags is “pure waste” for him, but everyone has to decide for themselves, he continues. You, in turn, experience that you always want to be measured by your clothes or “the price of my shoes somehow”. She was “so withdrawn”, it is then called. “That doesn’t determine my value as a person,” explains the presenter. “That doesn’t show what values are hidden in me or what character I have.” If she affords something from time to time, then she does it, “but that doesn’t make me a worse person”.

He sometimes gets upset about what she spends money on. But on the other hand, he also spends money on things that she wouldn’t pay a cent for. She thinks her clothes are beautiful and the pieces are of high quality. However, he finds a high level of brand affinity and has a “certain superficiality”. Just because a big name is on the clothes doesn’t mean the quality is “extraordinarily sensational” in his opinion. You see it differently and can feel the quality. However, Amira Pocher admits that you also pay for the name. However, you don’t define superficiality based on clothing, but on how you treat people.

For him it is “difficult to understand” that she spent 1,200 euros on Dior sandals and also owns three pairs of them. Shortly afterwards, the comedian explains that you also pay for the brand when it comes to cars. “You also take the image with you. And you also pay for it,” he says. She wonders if he’s being superficial now. Nevertheless, the podcast ends forgivingly: “I’ll get into my Aston Martin with your Dior slippers and buy you a new Birkin bag – and then we’ll all be happy again.”
