The 2021 MacBook Pro 14, with M1 Pro chip, is available for €2,249 on Apple’s official website. Darty is currently offering it for €1,999.
What is this MacBook Pro?
The powerful M1 Pro processor accompanies the MacBook Pro 14. Apple has also equipped its machine with 8 CPU cores and 14 GPU cores. 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD complete the impressive configuration of this MacBook Pro. If you regularly work on big, resource-intensive projects, this MacBook Pro 14 will run smoothly, with incredible fluidity. Two completely silent fans are arranged around the M1 Pro chip. They keep critical components cool to prevent overheating for greater efficiency.
The MacBook Pro 14 has a Liquid Retina XDR display. Its 14.2-inch mini-LED IPS panel offers a resolution of 3024 × 1964. Brightness and contrast are excellent, even in bright light. As usual, Apple pays particular attention to design. Apart from the unloved notch faithful to Apple, the screen occupies almost the entire surface, for an elegant rendering. The MacBook Pro is certainly a beautiful object. Performance is no slouch, with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.
Is this MacBook Pro 14 at less than 2,000 euros a good deal?
At less than €2,000, this MacBook is very well priced. The next MacBooks, equipped with the M2 Pro chips, will not be released until 2023 at an as yet undetermined date, so this is a great opportunity to get a high-performance machine. Its dimensions of 31 × 22 cm for a weight of 1.55 kg allow it to slip easily into a backpack. The disappearance of the Touch Bar on the 2021 MacBook Pro is the only noticeable ergonomic change. Other than that, the trackpad is precise and responsive and the typing offered by the backlit Magic Keyboard is excellent.
The webcam is in Full HD 1080p but unfortunately does not replace a real webcam. The speakers are good for a laptop. They provide good power and the sound is clean. If you wish, you can always plug headphones into the 35mm socket provided for this purpose. The available connectivity is also very complete, with three Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB‑C), an HDMI 2.0 port (4K at 60 Hz) and an SDXC card reader. Finally, Apple promises an autonomy of 17 hours. In fact, resource-intensive tasks will drain the battery a little faster.
