the precursor to ArmA 4 in early access on PC and Xbox

You’ve probably seen this weekend’s ArmA Reforged leak. Yesterday, Bohemia Interactive confirmed the existence of the game, and even announced ArmA 4.

After this weekend’s leaks around ArmA Reforger that we told you about here, Bohemia Interactive took the floor to make everything official. During its livestream held yesterday, the studio unveiled its plans for the ArmA series. We also take this opportunity to remember that the franchise has not been entitled to an exit since that of ArmA 3 in 2013.

ArmA Reforger will therefore be a kind of appetizer designed to put in place various key elements that will be implemented in the next game. The idea is therefore to be able to “test” new features before putting them in ArmA 4. The other big novelty is of course the arrival of the franchise on console. The developers will therefore use Reforge to adapt the gameplay to the pads.

ArmA Reforger: the game already available in Early Access

ArmA Reforger will immerse us in a new context. It is the Cold War that has been chosen, with events taking place in 1989. Players will therefore be able to choose between the Soviet or American armed forces before battling it out on a new terrain. Exit the Mediterranean island of Altis, and welcome to Everon. This fictitious pebble lost in the middle of the Atlantic will offer us 52Km² of playground. Yes, we are still far from the 270Km² of the island of ArmA 3.

Arma Reforger is available now in Early Access on Steam for €29.99. For Xbox players, you will have to go to the Xbox Game Preview side where the price is identical.

A first step towards ArmA 4!

According to an FAQ posted on the official website, ArmA Reforger should give players a taste of what will be in ArmA 4.

Arma Reforger is the first installment of the franchise made with the brand new Enfusion Engine graphics engine. This is a true standalone multiplayer sandbox title, and a preview of what’s to come next. More than that, it’s a platform that will give players a voice. An invitation to influence the future of the series. Via the Conflict and Game master game modes, we can discover the island of Everon, inspired by that of Nogova (ArmA Cold War Assault – Operation Flashpoint).

Although it is a different game, ArmA reforger is also a first step towards ArmA 4. The environment, historical context and assets will be reused in the next game in the series. Modding tools and features will also be present in the next ArmA, with many new additions. ArmA 4 will be a completely independent game, but its development will be based directly on the lessons learned from ArmA Reforger.
