It’s been a few months since a team of hackers explained that they were close to jailbreaking the PS5. Well it now seems like a no-brainer. Explanations.
Today, several serious sources in the video game industry have just announced the jailbreak of the PS5. It had to happen one day and obviously this day is… now:
It’s beautiful… The PlayStation 5 has just been jailbreak.
The Jailbreak of the PS5, what does it mean?
The jailbreak of a console, and in this specific case of the PS5, means that it is now possible to override the software limits of a manufacturer to install unapproved games/applications on it. In early November 2021, the group of hackers Fail0verflow post several pictures of inside Sony firmware software, it was already a harbinger of jaibreak. It is now done.
The jailbreak is a bit like opening Pandora’s box, the console could therefore open the way to the installation of a different operating system and therefore to be able to use totally pirated games. But it can also be a dangerous door to hack the console and recover information. If the Jailbreak of smartphones is legally possible, it is clearly not the same for a game console. So all this remains illegal and punishable by law.
In short, here are the advantages of a PS5 jailbreak (for the user):
- Download paid games for free
- Download PlayStation 1, 2, 3 and 4 games
- Modify games
- Create new themes and custom UI
Unfortunately, there are also many disadvantages:
- This voids your warranty
- No online multiplayer possible
- No access to group chat
- You will be banned if you access the PlayStation Network
- THIS IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL
