The PS5 Slim is not “Slim” enough? Discover the PS5 Tiny

A modder set out to transform the PS5 Slim into PS5 Tiny, a console half the size and with the same performance.

Sony released its new PS5 “Slim” on November 24, 2023, a model that replaces the previous version in stores. But as many have not failed to note, both journalists and players, the console is not as thin as that. If it loses 30% of its volume, it does not reach the level of what we have seen in the past, like the PS2 or the PS4 Slim.

A modder therefore decided to reduce the volume of the console even further for a truly tiny result.

Honey, I shrunk the PS5 Slim

We owe this work to the YouTube channel Not From Concentrate, which has been striving for years to concentrate maximum performance in the narrowest possible PC chassis.

With this new project, the modder used 3D printers and high-end cutting tools as usual to design this new PS5. If of course it is necessary to reuse the original motherboard of the console, everything else can be customized as desired.

The cooling system is thus much smaller, with a brand new radiator/fan pair from Alpenföhn and Noctua, just like the new power supply, which comes from HDPlex. We then had to connect all of this to new ports and buttons so that the machine was usable.

The only thing that this PS5 Tiny had to deport from the console is its disk reader. Sony obviously does not authorize the use of extension cables between the motherboard of the console and that of the player. But that didn’t stop NFC, which found a solution using a “breakout board“, a tiny circuit board, for the external drive to work.

The result is impressive, with a console that seems half the size of its big sister, while offering the same performance and features. Thermal performance is also excellent, with the machine only running a few degrees hotter for inaudible fan noise while gaming.
