The QR Code for traveling during the Paris Olympics is coming soon

Gérald Darmanin announces to Le Parisien the opening of a site dedicated to the Paris Olympic Games on May 10. It will generate QR Codes to access the city, access to which will be restricted during the competition.

The information was already known: you will need a QR code to move around Paris during the Olympic Games this summer. The Police Headquarters intends to set up different traffic perimeters, with more or less significant restrictions. Motorists will obviously be the most impacted, although pedestrians and cyclists will also have to comply.

In the coming days, the police chief should officially unveil the QR code system for the Paris Olympics. In the meantime, an interview with Gérald Darmanin in Le Parisien reveals the implementation date of the operation.

A site accessible from May 10, only on the Internet

During the Paris Olympic Games, any person who wishes to go to an area affected by the competition (or subject to reinforced security measures) must be in possession of a QR Code

This QR Code can be obtained in advance, from May 10, thanks to a site set up by the prefecture. You will need to provide your name, first name, date of birth and other information. “If you have not registered, you will not be able to enter,” indicates the Minister of the Interior.

This QR code, which can recall the travel certificate during the Covid period, will allow the police to better anticipate travel. “You will receive a QR code on your phone or tablet, and you can print it. You will start using it a week before, from the moment the security perimeter becomes waterproof. Pedestrian or non-pedestrian, you will need to present your QR code and your identity document during the check. Once within this perimeter, your freedom will be total », explains the minister.

To obtain this QR code, you will need to use a website. The minister specifies that door-to-door visits will be organized to help disconnected people, in the same way that the police will be responsible for helping people create a QR code if they do not have one. Gérald Darmanin does not say if there will be an application, like TousAntiCovid, if the QR code will have to be generated for each trip and if it will be possible to obtain one after the start of the Olympics. “There will be a period of latency, which the Paris police prefect will detail in the coming days”he says, without going into details.

JOPtimiz: France will launch its Waze competitor

Alongside this QR code system, France will offer its own navigation application during the Paris Olympic Games. Its operation is still mysterious, but France Inter revealed on April 9 the creation of JOPtimiz, “the Waze of the Olympics”.

It is a GPS which takes into account the tests, to indicate to delivery people which areas to prioritize and which to avoid. We still know very little about this application, especially since Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps should also support the special conditions of the Olympic Games.
