the real Geralt still tackles the Netflix series

The Netflix series The Witcher is not unanimous, even among certain important members of the community, such as the official voice of Geralt of Rivia.

Doug Cockle, famous for providing the voice of Geralt of Rivia in CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher video games, recently shared his thoughts on Netflix’s adaptation of the franchise. During an interview with YouTube channel Behind the Voice, Cockle expressed surprise at some of the decisions made by the writers of the Netflix series, while acknowledging the need to leave room for each medium to express themselves freely. A tackle we didn’t expect.

The Witcher on Netflix and the story of a small tackle

According to Cockle, although the TV series represents a different medium from video games, which themselves differ from The Witcher books and comics, it is essential that the series has the space to evolve and stand out. However, he admitted that he would like to speak with the writers at Netflix to better understand the creative choices behind certain directions taken by the series.

Doug Cockle enjoyed the first season of The Witcher series on Netflix, but found subsequent seasons took directions he struggled to fully understand. This caused him to rethink how he viewed the series, suggesting that it is sometimes necessary to judge it on its own merits rather than constantly comparing it to the games or books.

Cockle compared Netflix’s The Witcher to HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us, which closely followed the video game’s narrative with some minor changes, which worked well and was appreciated by fans. According to him, The Witcher had not only the books as a source, but also the games and comics, each adding their own interpretation, which made a certain creative freedom necessary for the television adaptation.

He explains :

I don’t know why they made these choices and I’d like to talk with some of the writers about why these choices were made, just so I can intellectually understand why.

The Netflix series The Witcher has been received differently by fans, but a fourth season is already in the works. This new season will introduce Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt, succeeding Henry Cavill. Laurence Fishburne and Danny Woodburn will also join the cast, enriching the universe with new characters.
