The release date of the PS5 Pro and its increased capabilities are becoming clearer

The leaks on the release period and technical specifications of the PS5 Pro would be “real” according to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming. This should still be taken with a grain of salt, because there is nothing official, but here is what these leaks indicate.

Leaks should always be taken with caution: they rarely constitute information strictly speaking. But this time, they were able to be in part confirmed by someone knowledgeable. Initially, on March 15, 2024, a YouTuber claimed to know the release period of the PS5 and its capabilities, supported by leaked documents. Shortly after, journalist Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming (pretty legit) was able to confirm that the leaks are “ real “.

Here is what we know to date, and without official confirmation from Sonythe release period of the PlayStation 5 Pro as well as its technical capabilities.

The release date of the PS5: a period is becoming clearer

The leaks do not specify a specific day or month, but indicate that the release date of the PS5 Pro would be located before the 2024 end-of-year holidays. November or December, therefore.

This is relatively consistent with previous information from Insider Gaming which, during 2023, estimated that the release of the PS5 Pro would take place around the end of 2024, in November.

Tom Henderson, however, qualifies that, even if the machine was ready on this date, it could be that Sony ultimately decides to postpone its program… because of the lack of PlayStation video games at that time: “ the date could be changed due to the lack of original games released on the PlayStation 5 this year “.

The capabilities of the PS5 Pro

The leaked capabilities of the PS5 Pro would be as follows:

  • Rendering speed increased by 45% compared to the classic PS5, which corresponds to better overall performance
  • Ray-tracing performance multiplied by 2 or 3, or even up to 4 times
  • 33.5 teraflops, compared to 10.28 teraflops for the current PS5: this means that the graphics capabilities will be better, as well as the loading times further reduced
  • 8K resolution supported
  • PSSR (for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling): a new “intelligent” solution for upscaling and antialiasing (antialiasing)
  • An AI acceleration of performance, with, moreover, an “in-house” machine learning architecture

These elements should be taken with a grain of salt because, as we repeat, they do not yet correspond to the manufacturer’s announcements. But they in any case give a first glimpse of the possible power of this new version of the PS5.
