Eric Ciotti meets for the first time, this Wednesday morning, on the occasion of his “shadow cabinet”, at the headquarters of the Republicans. The objective is to defend the ideas of the party and to build new projects.

The Republicans meet for the first time this Wednesday in their shadow cabinet, a sort of counter-government of Eric Ciotti. 33 members make up this firm, each with a favorite theme. The objective: to offer a credible alternative to the team currently in power. The device is not new and success has not always been there.

An initiative that arouses as much hope as skepticism

From François Mitterrand to Laurent Wauquiez, the previous cabinets have always been marked by their ephemeral character. Eric Ciotti tries the bet by presenting a team of 33 LR politicians with unequal notoriety. For example, with the former boss of the police, Frédéric Péchenard, thus inherits the security, the academic Christian Saint-Etienne, the economy. The goal is to continue to make the Republicans a government party in opposition to the NUPES or the National Rally, sometimes singled out for their low pool of potential ministers.

For Benjamin Morel, lecturer at Paris Panthéon-Assas, the condition of his success lies in the unity of the party. “The interest for LR would be to show that there are individuals who are capable of intervening, of being identified by voters on such and such a subject and that when they speak well, the whole party lines up behind them”, explains the lecturer.

So the initiative internally arouses as much hope as skepticism, some elected officials denouncing a Ligue 2 casting. An argument swept away by the leadership of the party, anxious to bring out proposals likely to feed the program of the future candidate of the right in 2027.
