The Republicans: Laurent Wauquiez makes his political comeback discreetly at Mont Mézenc

This Sunday, an emblematic figure of the Republican party is also making his political comeback. Laurent Wauquiez, the president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region will undertake the ascent of Mont Mézenc in the Massif Central at midday and thus honors an annual tradition. But this time, this political return will be discreet, because the founder of the think tank “The social right” has not planned a speech or a speech to the press. In recent months, Laurent Wauquiez has indeed cultivated discretion and expressed himself publicly with parsimony.

And he intends to continue this strategy this fall, as one of his relatives warns. “This ascent of Mont Mézenc will above all be a moment of conviviality with local elected officials and activists”. He will not be isolated, however, since around 500 people should accompany him on this hike. “He has his own management of the calendar. 2027 is a long way off”, analyzes one of his supporters. “He does not want to create weariness in public opinion, knowing that there will be an acceleration in the second part of the five-year term.”

“Laurent is not the heir of Macronie”

A method opposite to that of Gérald Darmanin, potential competitor in the future presidential battle. “Everyone is in their own lane. Laurent, he is not the heir of Macronie”, further believes a strategist from the Wauquiez camp. Still, Nicolas Sarkozy’s words about him in a recent interview with Le Parisien did not go unnoticed. “If you want to win Roland-Garros and you are in the final, it is not by playing small arms that you will succeed”, launched the former head of state.

But Laurent Wauquiez wants to choose his moment to get out of the woods and in the meantime, he prefers to gain height, both literally and figuratively.
