The next generations of AMD APU processors are revealed through a very complete roadmap.

In a few words and a rather vague roadmap, AMD itself was the first to talk about the Zen 5 architecture. We were then in August 2022 and, since then, these next Ryzens have not been talked about so much.

Last April, however, the first more precise leaks mentioned the “Nirvana” and “Morpheus” architectures, code names used at AMD to talk about Zen 5 and Zen 6… It was only the beginning.

Dragon Range dominant in 2024

Today, even more precise data is communicated by Moore’s Law is Dead, a well-known informant, but who also sometimes tends to “reveal” erroneous elements. So be careful.

In its latest video, Moore’s Law is Dead presents what it says is a roadmap ” recent », an internal AMD document. Right away, we notice that the roadmap in question displays several AMD product ranges depending on the processor market segments.

More importantly, we see the products divided between releases planned for 2024 and releases planned for the following year, in 2025. This is how we notice the dominance of the Dragon Range architecture in 2024 for Fire Range to take over in 2025.

Up to 45-50 TOPS in artificial intelligence

Fire Range processors will have a maximum of 16 cores and, for some of them, 3D-Vertical Cache, the famous X3D. Until then, nothing new compared to Dragon Range, but Fire Range will be in Zen 5 architecture for the CPU part.


An architecture that we will discover a little earlier, in 2024, with the release of Strix Point processors. According to the roadmap of Moore’s Law is Dead, the Strix Point must fill AMD’s “premium” segment and integrate both Zen 5 for the CPU part and RDNA 3.5 for the GPU part. In addition, cores dedicated to AI (XDNA 2) will be there.

The roadmap confirms Strix Point’s 12 Zen 5 cores, but doesn’t go into detail for RDNA 3.5. On the other hand, as is more and more often the case, AMD would claim performance of 45 to 50 TOPS (for (trillions of operations per second).

Phoenix gives way to Hawk Point/Kraken Point

More interesting and above all contrary to what was previously indicated, the Strix Halo generation could only be released in 2025 and no longer at the end of 2024. Strix Halo is planned for AMD’s “elite experiences” segment.

This generation will also combine Zen 5, RDNA 3.5 and XDNA 2 would still be 45 to 50 TOPS.

Finally, the roadmap mentions the Hawk Point and Kraken Point generations in the “premium” segment alongside Strix Point. The first seems to be a refresh from Phoenix with 8 Zen 4 cores, RDNA 3 and XDNA 1 for 16 TOPS. Kraken Point would be more ambitious in Zen 5 / RDNA 3.5 / XDNA 2.
