What is this robot vacuum cleaner from Roborock?
The Roborock S8 is one of the brand’s latest robot vacuum models. Released in March 2023, the S8 range consists of the standard model, here on sale, and the S8+ and S8 Pro Ultra versions. The S8, more affordable than its comrades, does not have a dump station, but offers similar performance and many practical features. Its bumper, equipped with sensors to avoid and circumvent obstacles, is accompanied by Reactive 3D technology, in order to mark objects on the path on a map to take them into account during future passages. He can thus optimize his journeys to be more efficient.
The S8 also includes a laser rangefinder to map your interior, to move around rooms more efficiently. Despite these features, it still happens to forget certain places, or sometimes go back unnecessarily to others. You of course have control over the list of scanned objects and the map of your interior, thanks to the dedicated Roborock application. The latter also allows you to plan a cleaning order, a cleaning time, and the vacuuming mode for each room.
Is the Roborock S8 a good deal at this price?
Less than €550 is a very good deal. The S8 is a powerful and much more affordable model on sale. Apart from its smart features, it doesn’t forget to be a vacuum cleaner first and foremost. Its DuoRoller brush and mop, accompanied by its water tank, allow effective maintenance of your floors. While the double brush removes waste and dust, the VibraRise system vibrates the mop to loosen more encrusted stains. This combo works particularly well on hard floors and thin rugs or carpets, as long as the water tray is not empty. The 300 ml of water it contains is unfortunately limited, and the mop is less effective when dry.
Max+ mode guarantees powerful suction in addition to the mop, but at the expense of the battery. The autonomy of the S8 allows a little over 3 hours of cleaning in normal mode, but 1h30 in Max+ mode. This last power mode, very efficient, is ideal for interiors which do not exceed 100 m². Note that the S8 returns itself to its charging station and resumes cleaning where it left off.
