“The Rookie” shines with many funny scenes. This is also the case in season 6 of the ABC series. In episode 100, a scene is revisited that gave us an earworm that lasted for days in season 5.
The ABC series “The Rookie” often deals with tough police cases, but also has moments in which it doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is also the case in season 5, episode 13, which begins with a wonderful song that also provides the title of the episode: “Daddy Cop”.
Officer John Nolan and his rookie Celina Juarez are on patrol when they stop a driver driving conspicuously – right in front of a driveway where a band is rehearsing in the garage. Funnily enough, the band takes up the event musically. Much to John Nolan’s “annoyance” because the band calls him a “daddy cop” and wants him to make a sexy arrest.
Cop cuties, cute and on duty
We weren’t the only ones who immediately got a catchy tune from the song, because Celina also promptly sang along to the song and sang it again later in the episode. By the way, the garage band’s singer is Zander Hawley, who also sang the song “Katla” in episode 8, which plays in the background in a scene between Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford.
The “Daddy Cop Song” becomes a running gag
The song seems to have been so well received by viewers and those involved in the show that it is now becoming a running gag in the series. In episode 2 of season 6, “The Rookie” goes one better to celebrate the 100th episode: Celina and John are once again called to the garage band, which plays the “Daddy Cop Song” again. There is also a gospel choir and a guitar player who delivers a solo. A great introduction to this special episode!
Season 6 of “The Rookie” is currently being shown weekly on Sky and Wow. However, with a trick you can watch “The Rookie” without another streaming subscription.
