They complete the three-day tour of Prince William and Duchess Kate with the private train of the British royal family, the Royal Train.

Prince William (38) and Duchess Kate (38) have started their three-day tour to thank the pandemic helpers. The two royals travel through England, Scotland and Wales in a special vehicle: the royal train.

The "Royal Train" is the court train of the British monarchs, which is exclusively available to the royals and the royal court. The train was first used in 1977, when the Queen (94) celebrated her silver jubilee. The "Royal Train" currently has nine carriages and includes bedrooms, a dining room, private lounges and a study.

However, the inner workings of the train are not (anymore) particularly luxurious by today's standards: The royal train is more functional than palatial – and its furnishings are quite outdated. The compartments have not been renewed since the 1970s, which is clearly evident from the interior. Also interesting: the train is operated by DB Cargo UK, a Deutsche Bahn company.

For Duchess Kate it is the first trip by train. Her Duchess Meghan (39) is a bit ahead: She drove with the Queen in the royal vehicle in 2018.
