Just days away from release, the company reports that the flagship Ryzen 7000X3D series performs, on average, 6% better than the Core i9-13900K in games. The gap with the Ryzen 9 7950X is 16%.
Next Tuesday, February 28, you will be able to acquire the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Ryzen 9 7900X3D, desktop processors with respectively 16 cores/32 threads and 12 cores/24 threads boosted in L3 cache (128 MB). Previous preliminary results in Blender, Geekbench 5 and SiSoft of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D showed quite disappointing scores, lower than those of the Ryzen 9 7950X (this chip benefits from a higher TDP). Don’t worry, in games the Ryzen 9 7950X3D should get its revenge. That’s according to measurements taken by AMD for its press rating guide.
The Core i9-13900K beaten in points, the Ryzen 9 7950X not KO, but in the ropes
The documents compare the performance of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D to that of Intel’s Core i9-13900K (24 cores/32 threads) in about twenty games and five benchmarks. The two processors are associated with a Radeon RX 7900 XTX at first, with a GeForce RTX 4090 in a second. With this graphics card, AMD also organized a Ryzen 9 7950X / Ryzen 9 7950X3D confrontation. Among the titles chosen are Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Horizon Zero Dawn or Total War Warhammer III. The definition is Full HD. The systems mobilize 2 x 16 GB of DDR5-6000 memory.
With the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D has a 5.6% higher average frame rate per second than the Core i9-13900K. With the GeForce RTX 4090, the gap is 6%, still in favor of AMD’s processor.
On the other hand, like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D brings gains of frame rate significant compared to its model, by 16% on average with the GeForce RTX 4090.
The vengeful Core i9-13900K in synthetic benchmarks
On the side of synthetic benchmarks, they are connected with a previous leak: the Ryzen 9 7950X3D does less well than the Core i9-13900K in Geekbench and Cinebench R23. AMD’s chip is also slower in DolphinBench and Kraken Benchmark. On the other hand, it wins in 7Zip.
During its CES 2023 presentation, AMD called its Ryzen 7000X3Ds the “ Ultimate Gaming Processors » ; this indeed seems to be the case with the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. Note however that the Core i9-13900K is no longer, officially, the standard bearer of the Raptor Lake-S: this role is now held by the Core i9-13900KS, which is nothing more than a model Factory OC.
