With the end of the recruitment of “mercenary doctors”, local elected officials fear closures of services.
As of Monday, hospitals will no longer be able to pay temporary doctors above the maximum rate, under penalty of legal action. This provision included in the Rist law had been voted in 2016, but postponed several times. This time, the Minister of Health, François Braun, is determined to apply it and put an end to “the cannibal interim” and in the employ of “mercenary doctors”. The law provided for a cap on the salary of temporary workers at 1,170 euros for 24 hours, a ceiling revised upwards a week ago by the Minister of Health to 1,370 euros.
In a context of shortage of doctors, the objective is to prevent certain practitioners from raising the stakes to make replacements in the hospital. Some could thus be paid up to 4,000 euros for 24-hour care, provided that it falls during the holiday season or in the heart of summer.
