The Smart implants or smart implants, that’s nothing new. There are already hundreds of examples of the use of microchips implemented under the skin. For example, a company in Wisconsin (US) has already tested these chips to open doors, buy drinks, connect to computers or use the copier.

Installing them is also a very simple form of biohacking. Essentially, it’s an extension of the chips you’ll find in contactless smart cards or pet microchips: passive devices that store very small amounts of information. Some dream of a world where these RFID chips will be used for passports, public transport or for shopping.

A practical case: the health pass

The DSruptive company specializes in the design of these microchips. These are scalable platforms that contain a small PCB, an NFC antenna, 2 KB of memory… the whole is 12 to 14 mm thick and 2 mm in diameter.

From an energy point of view, the assembly is powered by the magnetic field generated by the NFC antenna, any NFC reader will therefore activate the connected sensors of the DSruptive card. This means that this microchip does not have a built-in battery, it is called a passive device.

It’s very small, so we can integrate them everywhere, even under the skin. The Swedish startup had the idea of ​​surfing the news around the health pass. No QR code to scan, but an NFC tag to read which contains the same information. This is not technically possible in France, but Sweden is leading the experiment.

The sanitary pass can be easily used on Android and iPhone, without having to do biohacking.
