The secret of the double “64”: Langer achieves a rare golf sensation

The secret of the double “64”
Langer achieves a rare golf sensation

Bernhard Langer adds another amazing chapter to his successful career as a golfer. On his 64th birthday, a round on the square ended with 64 strokes. Something like that happens very rarely, but the icon already had a small premonition in the morning.

It is every golfer’s dream: To finish a round once in a lifetime with as few strokes as your own age is. But hardly any player is granted this experience in their career. Germany’s golf legend Bernhard Langer has now fulfilled this lifelong dream – on his 64th birthday. That happens even less often. What a little sensation. The veteran played a round of 64 at the tournament in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Langer already had a premonition on the morning of his historic day: “I wrote with my family today and said to them: My goal is to play my age today and to give myself a birthday present with it.” Said and done. After the masterpiece, Langer was celebrated by his competitors on the US Seniors Tour and the fans. “It was great,” said the 1985 and 1993 Masters winner. “The atmosphere was amazing all day. People sang Happy Birthday three times a day.”

Langer has been a professional for 45 years. The time to stop playing golf has not yet come for him. “I’m in a lot of pain, but I’m reasonably healthy. I’m still pretty good at it and I’m still competitive,” said the veteran, who has so far celebrated 41 victories on the US tour for the over 50s. “I know the clock is ticking and it won’t be forever. So I try to enjoy every day I’m out here.” And maybe he will repeat his little sensation in the coming year.
