The Settlers: New Allies, Ubisoft’s RTS releases without warning on consoles, restrictions in sight on Switch

Ubisoft Blue Byte will have taken time to give birth to a new The Settlers. Announced in 2014 as The Settlers: Kingdoms of AnteriaThen rebooted with the simple title The Settlersthe project finally appeared on PC under the title The Settlers: New Allies last February. Ubisoft had plans to then port it to consoles and that’s what he did without warning this week.

The fantasy strategy game is indeed available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Amazon Luna since July 4, 2023with all the content that was accessible to PC players, namely 13 campaign missions, 13 maps Skirmish for the pvp and the PvEand a mode Hardcore for the most seasoned, playable solo or cooperative. However, the button layouts have been revised for gamepad playability and it will be possible to play in cross play and with cross progression on all platforms.

However, some restrictions are to be expected on the Switch side:

  • When disconnecting from a multiplayer game, Nintendo Switch players will not be able to reconnect;
  • Connecting mansions together will not show a visual connection between buildings (archs, etc.). Gameplay will not be affected;
  • In the 4v4 Skirmish game, all players will be limited to 250 units (down from 500).

The Settlers: New Allies is exclusively available in digital format on these new consoles: it weighs around 6.7 GB on Switch, 10 GB on Xbox One and 12 GB on PS4 (it is obviously backward compatible and playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S). It is sold in standard edition from €49.99, in particular via Amazon.co.uk.
